With the wide application and development of power electronics technology, a large number of nonlinear loads have been added to power supply systems, such as frequency converters, UPSs, computers, electric arc furnaces, large rolling mills, electric locomotives, etc. Since they all operate in a switching mode, they will cause distortions in the current and voltage waveforms of the power grid, thus resulting in harmonic "pollution" of the power grid.
If harmonics exist in the system, an increase in load on capacitors will be reflected as higher current losses. Higher current losses mean thermal overload, which will shorten the lifespan of capacitors.
It is a very effective and feasible method to connect tuned reactors in series in the circuit of shunt capacitors. The main functions of the series-tuned reactors are to suppress higher-order harmonics and limit inrush current during switching on, prevent harmonics from harming capacitors, and avoid excessive amplification of power grid harmonics and the occurrence of resonance caused by the connection of capacitor devices.
Reactor Features
High-Precision Iron Core
The iron core of the reactor is formed by stamping and stacking high-precision silicon steel sheets, which minimizes the inductance differences among the three phases as much as possible and ensures the tuning accuracy of the reactor. In addition, in a power grid environment with a serious degree of harmonic pollution, sufficient iron core linearity can withstand the repeated switching on and off of capacitor banks without causing saturation problems.
High Temperature Resistance Grade
The insulating layer adopts Class H materials. The maximum operating temperature can reach 50 °C, and the highest storage temperature is 75 °C.
Vacuum Overpressure Injection
The entire reactor unit is injected with insulating materials under vacuum conditions and dried under overpressure conditions. Vacuum overpressure injection ensures the safety of the structure of the reactor winding and the iron core, thereby achieving the purposes of reducing noise, reducing vibration, and enhancing heat dissipation.
Computer-Controlled Design and Testing
Whether it is the requirements for losses, dimensions or environmental conditions, the reactor design can be optimized through design software, and a customized product can be provided for customers. The database-controlled reactor testing equipment is suitable for daily reactor testing. In type tests, a unique three-phase harmonic generator with a capacity of 0.9 Mvar can simulate the situation of harmonics in the actual power grid and simultaneously emit fundamental current and harmonic current to test the effect of the reactor. Meanwhile, in the reliability testing of products, heat generation and noise testing as well as overvoltage testing are all essential contents for ABB reactor testing.
