As part of Beckhoff's EtherCAT terminal module system, the EL7201 integrates a full servo drive scheme within a standard I/O terminal module housing, tailored for motors with a maximum power of 200W. This innovation significantly simplifies wiring and commissioning processes, saving space and reducing system costs. The EL7201 is designed to provide high servo performance in a very compact design. It leverages field-oriented current and PI speed control technologies to support rapid and highly dynamic positioning tasks. With its integrated resolver interface, the terminal offers seamless integration with servo motors, ensuring precise and reliable operation. Through the calculation of I²T models, the EL7201 monitors various parameters such as overvoltage, undervoltage, overcurrent, terminal temperature, and motor load, thus providing extensive operational reliability. Communication within the system is facilitated by EtherCAT, a high-performance system communication protocol. CAN-over-EtherCAT (CoE) serves as the application layer, enabling an ideal interface with PC-based control technologies. It supports direct motor connection for load-type permanent magnet synchronous motors, with a nominal voltage of 50V DC and an output current of 2.8A RMS. For enhanced performance, the EL7201 can be paired with the ZB8610 fan box, which allows for an increased output current of 4.5A RMS (with overload and short-circuit protection) and a peak current of 5.7A RMS for one second. The PWM clock frequency is set at 16kHz, with a current controller frequency of 32kHz and a rated speed controller frequency of 16kHz. In terms of physical specifications, the EL7201 is compact, measuring only 12mm in width, and weighs approximately 60 grams. It operates within a temperature range of 0 to +55°C for working conditions and -25 to +85°C for storage. The terminal is also resistant to vibrations and shocks, conforming to EN 60068-2-6 and EN 60068-2-27 standards. Its EMC immunity and emissions comply with EN 61000-6-2 and EN 61000-6-4 standards, respectively. The EL7201 is certified with CE and UL marks, ensuring its compliance with international safety standards. With 16 LEDs indicating status, warnings, error messages, and possible activity limits, the EL7201 provides operators with clear and concise feedback on the system's status. The terminal's integration into EtherCAT I/O systems not only simplifies wiring but also enhances system performance, making it an ideal choice for a wide range of applications.
